The Netherlands / Finn Class
Learning by trying, from the first moment that Nicholas jumped in a boat he was trying to make the boat go fast. When he got his first Optimist he made a spinnaker for it, because 'that's what the fast boats have as well'. That mentality has never left. After sailing the Optimist Nicholas went on to sail multiple boats before committing to the Laser Standard in 2009, 'that's where the best competition is'. Giving him a wide range off knowledge from different types of boats and races, dinghy or keelboat, making him an allround sailor.
Nicholas his biggest succes to date is the ISAF World Sailing Championship 2014 in Santander where he became the World Champion in the Laser Class. The determination to get the best out himself, the team and the boat will help him realize his goals of winning an Olympic gold medal and winning the Volvo Ocean Race.
After a tough qualification race with Dutch competitor Rutger van Schaardenburg in the Laser Standard Class, Nicholas decided in 2016 to make a switch to the Finn Class and he managed to qualify himself for Tokyo 2021.
