In this period of 9 weeks we'll present you new portraits of the Magic Marine family, sailor's dilemmas and the latest updates about our qualified sailors. Every week we will send you an update in which we will also share their favorite Magic Marine items! And even though all qualifying options for the members of the Magic Marine family are behind us, there still are a few milestone events on the agenda before summer starts on which we will keep you posted!
Emma Plasschaert is sailing in the Laser Radial and representing Belgium. In 2018 she became World Champion in Aarhus, Denmark, that's where she also qualified for Tokyo. In 2019 Emma first won the test event and then also the World Cup in Japan on a full European podium; Emma Plasschaert BEL, Marit Bouwmeester NED and Maria Erdi HUN winning Gold, Silver and Bronze.
As former World Champion and winner of the Enoshima Test Event Emma can be called one of the top sailors in the Laser Radial fleet. She has been training in Australia all winter long. From 4 - 6 June Emma will be competing in the Hempel World Cup Series Allianz Regatta in Medemblik in The Netherlands. 69 sailors will compete in the Laser Radial Class, 23 of them have also qualified for Tokyo. The regatta can be followed on the event website.
Former Belgium Laser Radial sailor Evi van Acker will be head coach for the Belgian sailors from 1 July. She stopped racing on the highest level after a silver medal at the World Championships in Medemblik in 2017. Emma: 'Evi is of great value for our team, we know each other well after many years of training and racing.'
'After a difficult year the pieces of the puzzle are slowly falling into place. Somehow I was a little relieved the games got postponed. Before it felt I still lacked some confidence in some areas, especially with tactics, race planning and starts. With the extra time we were able to figure it all out... When we'll be leaving for Japan is not sure yet, we have to wait and see!'
